Workshop on statistical data collection
Bhopal, Jan 9 (UNI) A five-day workshop on state income and other aggregates for central eastern region opened here yesterday for indepth discussion on the methods of statistical data collection.
Representatives of 8 states, including Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Orissa, Jammu and Kashmir and Madhya Pradesh, are participating in the workshop, sponsored by the Planning Commission and United Nations Development Programme.
Renowned economist and M P State Planning Board Vice Chairman Dr Sompal Shastri, who inaugurated the workshop, stressed the need for collection of statistical data through scientific and uniform methods.
Citing an example about difference in the data on forest area in the revenue records and global satellite report, Dr Shastri said it was imperative to adopt new scientific methods.
