Belgaum, Karnataka, Jan 9 (UNI) In an attempt to improve the ''employability'' of its students and those of its affiliated colleges, Vishweshwarya Technological University (VTU) here has launched the University Level Skill Assessment Test (ULSAT) to benefit students appearing for various tests for placements.

In a release here today, VTU said ULSAT would be conducted on February 24 in all the 122 affiliated engineering colleges simultaneously for sixth semester BE students. The test covered modules such as communication skills, logical reasoning and quantitative aptitude, required by the modern corporate world, and also covered domain-specific knowledge relevant to various branches of engineering. This kind of assessment allowed the students to know where they stand in these modules.

After the evaluation, ULSAT score details would be issued to the students and an industry-academia committee had been constituted to ensure effective monitoring and implementation of this programme, the release said.

The release said that in line with this vision, VTU had introduced self-learnable e-learning programmes such as Aptitude Laboratories, English Language Laboratories and Career Laboratories in all the affiliated engineering colleges.

Varsity Vice-Chancellor Dr K Balveera Reddy opined that this new initiative would go a long way towards increasing the employability of engineering graduates and solving the problem of mismatch between industry requirements and academic curricula.
