VAT exemption on jaggery will help traders in AP
Visakhapatnam, Jan 9(UNI) The exemption of Value Added Tax (VAT) on jaggery came as a boon to traders in Andhra Pradesh.
The country's second biggest Jaggery market in the Anakapalli district has 60 jaggery dealers registered with commercial tax department and only 32 of them were paying VAT as per norms.
The remaining 28 traders fell outside the purview of VAT as they were concentrating on exports.
Muzaffarnagar district in Uttar Pradesh has the largest jaggery market in the country, followed by Anakapalli, as it is the second biggest in the world.
The farmers have been urging the Government to increase the cess from the existing one per cent to two per cent to enable it to meet the increasing expenditure on market yards.
