2-day workshop on conservation of biodiversity

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 9: The Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute (TBGRI) will organise a two-day workshop on ''Conservation of Biodiversity through Biotechnological Interventions'' here from tmorrow.

The aim of the workshop is to assess and promote biotechnological options for conserving and evaluating the Rare, Endangered and Threatened (RET) species.

About 40 conservation scientists from different parts of the country would take part in the brainstroming workshop, organised under the sponsorship of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, organising secretary Dr S Seeni said in a release here yesterday.

The scientists would present their proposals which would be scrutinised and may be approved for further findings by the Department of Biotechnology.

The themes identified for presentation were present status of biodiversity, biotechnology based conservation of RET species of plants, animals and microbes and bioprospecting of RET plant species for product development, the release added.
