Three persons injured in stone pelting

Udupi, Karnataka, Jan 9 (UNI) Three persons were injured when over 1,500 students of various junior colleges in the district pelted stones at a vehicle carrying food as the driver attempted to defy the road blockade put up by the students and run over them at Padubidre here today.

Police said the students, under the banner Yuva Shakthi, took out a padayatra on the national highway and blocked the highway for about ten minutes, protesting against the proposed coal-based thermal power plant in the district.

A student was also injured in the melee, in which a tanker was damaged. The injured student lodged a police complaint.
