SP demands President's rule in Asom
Lucknow, Jan 9: Samajwadi Party today demanded imposition of President's rule in Asom due to ''constitutional failure'' in the state following killing of 66 people by the ULFA activists.
Party's senior leader and Lok Sabha member Beni Prasad Verma said Asom is a fit case for using Article 356 of the Constitution as the state administration has failed in providing security to people.
''Congress can only demand President's rule in Uttar Pradesh, but now they should dismiss their own government, following the constitutional norms,'' he told mediapersons here.
Claiming that the Congress is only interested in vote politics, Mr Verma said ethnic violence in Upper Asom was a clear evidence of the law and order in Congress-ruled states.
He also called upon the opposition parties in UP, including Congress, BJP and BSP, to make an apology before the people for their ''hate'' statement against the government.
''The Opposition is indulging in negative politics, which is ruining the development of UP,'' he alleged.
Meanwhile, Mr Verma said the party will hold a massive Kurmi rally in the state capital on Thursday.
