Six-member delegation of MPs meets PM on Asom carnage
New Delhi, Jan 9: A six-member delegation of MPs from Asom, led by Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises Santosh Mohan Dev, met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here today.
The delegation apprised the Prime Minister of the latest situation on the recent militant attacks in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and elsewhere in the state. Minister of State for Chemicals, Fertilisers and Parliamentary Affairs B K Handique also accompanied the delegation.
The MPs in the delegation were Dwijendra Nath Sharma, Karnendu Bhattacharjee, L M Suklabaidya, Kirip Chaliha, M K Subba and S Condpan.
The delegation requested the Prime Minister to render all possible help to bring back normalcy and restore communal harmony in the state.
Dr Singh assured all possible help and informed the delegation that he was seized of the situation and had already asked the state government to take necessary actions in this regard.
He further assured that in addition to Rs three lakh being provided by the Asom Government, he had also instructed to provide Rs two lakh as compensation to next of kin of each deceased person in the recent attack.
Dr Singh said the Defence Minister A K Antony along with the Army Generals was visiting the state to take stock of the situation and recommend further remedial measures.
