Revival of Dogra certificate demanded
Jammu, Jan 9 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government will give necessary instructions to the revenue authorities for the revival of Dogra certificate, which gives relaxation in recruitment in defence services for the youths of this region, a senior Minister today informed the Legislative Assembly.
Responding to the demand raised by Panthers Party legislator Harashdev Singh, Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma said revenue authorities would be asked to look into the matter regarding revival of dogra certificates to the youth of Jammu province.
The Dogra people, who generaly have short-statured physique, get relexation in height and weight standards of the military and para-military forces.
Domicile of Dogri-speaking Jammu region, almost entire Himachal Pradesh and northern areas of Punjab are considered as Dogras, who have soldiering in tradition.
Three army regiments -- Jammu and Kashmir rifles, the Dogra regiment and Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry -- are dominated by the Dogras, besides markable presence in other arms and sister services.
The house was also assured that the matter regarding issuance of caste certificates would be solved very soon.
