Reliance pleads that SAD PIL on SEZ is ''political'

Chandigarh, Jan 9 (UNI) Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) today submitted a counter affaidavit in Punjab and Haryana High Court that the PIL filed by the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) leaders praying to quash the RIL land deal with Punjab government for setting up of special economic zone (SEZ), was ''politically motivated'' and should not be entertained.

In the counter-affidavit filed before the division bench of Justices Surinder Singh Nijjar and Surinder Singh Saron, the RIL prayed that the PIL filed by former Punjab minister Capt Kanwajit Singh and two other SAD(B) legislators be dismissed as it was not a PIL in any sense of the term as it was prompted by political consideration.

It also sought directions to the authorities concerned to ensure against hurdles in setting up the project as approved and not to allow any relief to the petitioners.

After taking the counter-affidavit on record, the bench adjourned the hearing to March 27, when the main petition in this regard is due to be heard.
