NLFT rebels abduct GMP leader

Agartala, Jan 09 (UNI) Banned underground outfit NLFT cadres kidnapped a GMP leader yesterday from a village under Salema Police Station in Tripura's Dhalai district.

According to police, Falendra Reang (45) was kidnapped at gun point by National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-BM) faction from his residence at Ramguna para, about 12 km from Salema in Kamalpur sub-division.

Security forces have rushed to the spot and launched a search operation to rescue Mr Reang and apprehend the miscreants.

CPI(M) claimed that Mr Reang was an elected member of the Village Committee apart from being a Gana Mukti Parishad leader, a frontal tribal wing of the ruling CPI(M).

The party and the villagers have demanded the leaders immediate release unconditionally.

Meanwhile, an enforcement wing in its continuous anti-ganja drive had destroyed more than 4,000 opium plants under Bishalgarh police station in state's west district.
