Maoist rebels shoot dead CPI(M) worker in Bengal

West Midnapore, Jan 9 (UNI) A CPI(M) activist was shot dead by suspected Maoist rebels at Jamjurki village under Belpahari police station in this district today.

Police said the incident took place around 0730 hrs when a group of 15 rebels, led by a woman, attacked 52-year-old Telaram Tudu and pumped six bullets into his body. He died on the spot.

Tudu, a former member of CPI(M)'s local committee, was also an active party worker.

A police team rushed to the scene of crime where situation was tense but under control.

Preliminary investigations by police revealed that AK 47-type rifles had been used for the murder.

Police launched a combing operation in nearby forests to nab the culprits.
