Large quake strikes deep under ocean near Fiji

Washington, Jan 9: A 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck deep under the ocean northeast of Fiji, the US Geological Survey said.

The quake struck 155 miles (255 km) off Fiji's Ndoi Island in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of 253 miles at 8:52 am local time today (0222 IST), the USGS said.

There was no immediate statement from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii regarding the risk of a tsunami.
