Kuznetsova retires from Sydney International
SYDNEY, Jan 9 (Reuters) Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova pulled out of the Sydney International today after complaining of breathing problems.
The world number four lost the first set 6-2 in her second-round match to Katarina Srebotnik when she said she was unable to continue, complaining of an upper respiratory tract infection.
Kuznetsova, who won the U.S. Open in 2004 and was a finalist at the French Open last year, was the third player to withdraw from the Sydney International today.
Spanish world number two Rafael Nadal retired from his first round match against Australian wildcard Chris Guccione after complaining of a leg injury, while Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan cited a wrist injury for quitting his match against Czech qualifier Ivo Minar.
