Kerala govt to approach SC against HC verdict
Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 9 (UNI) The Kerala government today decided to file an appeal in the Supreme Court against the recent High Court verdict upholding the right of the managements of self-financing professional colleges in the state to make admission and determine the fee structure.
Talking to newspersons here, after a meeting of the Cabinet, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said his government would hold bilateral talks with the college management to find an amicable solution.
He said a decision had been taken to extend fees concessions to students belonging to the SC/ST communites in these colleges, managed by institutions under the control of the government.
The government's decision to approach the Apex Court was due to last week's decision of the division bench of the High Court comprising Chief Justice V K Bali and Justice P R Raman to strike down all ''controversial'' provisions of the Kerala Self-Financing Professional Colleges Act, 2006.
