Internet has emerged as a science now

Bangalore, Jan 9: Beyond email and search engines, Internet has now emerged a science and held a bright future for more applications being loaded into it.

Delivering the first of the Big Thinkers India Series of four lectures of Yahoo India Research and Development on ''Community Systems:the World Online'', Prof RaghuRamakrishnan Vice President and Research Fellow at Yahoo said the usage of web was well beyond search with legal, economic and social necessities making it more powerful. ''We are in the grasp of a new generation of Web technology which promises exciting times ahead'' he added.

Referring to DBlife a new search engine that would be in place later this year after the beta testing, he said it would offer information about people and their contribution.

He said with a wealth of information on the Web, new tools for extraction of data need to be evolved to ensure that the Knowledge base was effectively used to get right information at right place.
