Bangalore, Jan 9 (UNI) Widening its brands and introduction of a third generation small car will enable General Motors India to double its sales to 72,000 units this year.

GM India which sold 36,000 cars last year was also planning to go to smaller cities and towns with the popularity of MUV Tavera spreading far and wide. ''We will be opening more show rooms and service centres across the country'' Mr Ankush Arora, Vice President Sales and Marketing and After Sales for the country told newsmen here today.

Speaking at the launch of the much awaited Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, he said Spark, the third generation all new vehicle in the small car segment, would make its appearance in the second quarter of this calendar year. Spark was expected to be competitively priced in its class of vehicles that included Zen Estilo, WagonR and Santro.

Aveo U-Va and Aveo together were expected to sell over 20,000 vehicles this year, Mr Arora said adding that Aveo U-Va was expected to attract nearly 20 per cent of fresh buyers, with the replacement market and second car segment sharing 40 per cent each.

As part of the Chevrolet India revolution, Aveo U-Va was the third new Chevrolet product to enter the market this year. It followed the successful launch of Aveo Sedan and SRV premium sportsback. Aveo U-Va was a global product sold in Europe, North America and other parts of Asia Pacific. It had been engineered for India based on extensive testing across the country.

On exports, he said the company was selling 300 cars in Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bangladesh and this number would expand to around 3000.

Mr Arora said with its combination of modern Italian design and generous list of features and roomy interiors, Aveo U-Va had set a new bench mark in its segment in terms of product attributes.
