Farm commodity prices generally remained steady during dec28-Jan4

New Delhi, Jan 9 (UNI) The prices of 14 essential commodities monitored by Department of Consumer Affairs generally remained steady during the week ending January 4, 2007.

In Delhi, prices of wheat, atta, tur, sugar, vegetable oils, milk, potato, onion and salt showed no change while there was a marginal increase in prices of rice and tea by 0.50 paise per kg respectively.

The price of gram declined by Re 1 per kg to Rs 37.

Compared to those ruling one month back, prices of gram declined by Rs 3 per kg from Rs 40 to Rs 37 and sugar by Re 1 per kg from Rs 20 to Rs 19. Similar trend in prices has been seen in different locations throughout the country.

NAFED has reported disposal of 35,168 tonnes of urad and 12,893 tonnes of moong, which has been reported by it during 2006-07. This comprises 97 per cent of the total quantity (49,300 tonnes) contracted for import by NAFED during this year.

The prices prevailing at Delhi on January 4, 2007 and the previous week ending December 28, 2006 for 14 commodities were Rice Rs 15 (Rs 14.50), Wheat 12 (12), Atta 13 (13), Gram 37 (38), Tur 33 (33), Sugar 19 (19), Groundnut Oil 92 (92), Mustard Oil 58 (58), Vanaspati 56 (56), Tea (Loose) 109.50 (109), Milk 17 (17) Potato 6 (6) and Salt (Pack) 8 (8).
