Death rate increases among Indians in Qatar
Dubai, Jan 9 (UNI) An all-time high of 179 Indian nationals died,' four of them women in Qatar in 2006, according to a report released by the Indian embassy in Doha.
Compared to 145 deaths in 2005, there was an increase of 34 deaths last year, the report released yesterday said.
However, on January 9 last year, quoting the Indian embassy, the Gulf Times had reported that there had been 154 deaths among the Indians in 2005.
Like in the previous years, most deaths were due to natural causes, 111 of which were from heart-related problems.
What worries the mission is the three-fold increase in the number of suicides. While only three such cases were reported in 2005, there were 11 such incidents last year.
November alone accounted for four suicidal deaths. April had seen three such cases while in June two people committed suicide.
