Customs seize arms in Cochin Port
Kochi, Jan 9 (UNI) Customs Officials today seized a sizeable number of arms from a computer furniture consignment from Dubai at the Cochin Port here.
Additional Customs Commissioner Rema Mathew newspersons that about 37 air pistols and 18 air rifles were confiscated from 39 boxes so far.
She said Ananth Pai, proprietor of Premier Exporters, the dealers in the import of the cargo concerned, was detained for interrogation.
The seizure was made after a random check of the container which had about 800 boxes, she added.
The training arms were concealed under the furniture.
According to reports, the cargo was addressed to a man in Thrissur.
Investigations were on, she said.
Meanwhile, Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said in Thiruvananthapuram that Additional Director-General of Police (Intelligence) Jacob Punnoose had been asked to inquire into the seizure of the arms.
