Centre, CPM must come clean on Nandigram issue: BJP

New Delhi, Jan 9 (UNI) The BJP today accused the Centre and the CPM-led coalition Government in West Bengal of not being 'transparent' on the issue of acquisition of land of farmers for setting up a Special Economic Zone at Nandigram where at least six people had been killed allegedly in police firing on protestors.

The party alleged that there seemed to be a nexus between the CPM-led Government and the industrialists in the whole exercise of acquiring land for the purpose of setting up a SEZ.

The party said Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had denied having issued any notification for acquiring land in Nandigram and blamed the CPM opponents for creating trouble, but was fully exposed when a TV channel started showing the said notification.

"Why is the Government of West Bengal hiding the truth," BJP spokesman Ravi Shanker Prasad asked.

He said the Chief Minister had misled again when he said that farmers were duly paid enough compensation for acquiring land for Tatas small car project at Singur, but later retracted the statement by clarifying that not all farmers were paid the compensation.

"Nothing is clear on the matter till date," he said.

Mr Prasad said it was very unfortunate that people were killed when they protested. The BJP wants that the Centre and the CPM must clarify that their developmental policies should not become "shelter of land scam", adding in a lighter vein that "the Left hand drive has become the right hand drive without a human face." BJP President Rajnath Singh has, meanwhile, constituted a five- member team under the leadership of Mrs Sushma Swaraj to visit Nandigram tomorrow to study the situation.

Other members of the team are Mr S S Ahluwalia, Mr Shahnawaz Hussein, Mr Dharmendra Pradhan and Mr Kharbela Swain.
