49th state-level R-Day sports meet begins tomorrow

Tiruchirapalli, Jan 9 (UNI) The 49th state-level Republic Day sports meet will begin here tomorrow.

More than 1,400 students, including 678 girls from various schools in 16 regions will participate in the three-day event, Chief Educational Officer (Tiruchirapalli) R Muthukrishnan told newspersons here.

The 36th Republic Day Sports meet was held here wayback in 1993, he said adding, for the first time, 4x400 m relay will be introduced for both boys and girls in the meet. The best students will be eligible to participate in the national-level events.

The sporting event would be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in the BHEL complex here, he added.
