Vice President inaugurates NCC's Republic Day Camp

New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat today stressed on the need to redefine growth strategy and make development inclusive for all sections of society.

Inaugurating the annual NCC Republic Day Camp-2007 here, he said we need growth with equity, a growth that bridged the gap and the divide between the rich and the poor.

Saying real economic uplift of the common man must engage our undivided attention, he emphasised that there was an urgent need for renewed commitment and dedication to the welfare of the people specially the poor and the deprived.

In this onerous task, the youth were the most valuable resource, he added.

Mr Shekhawat opined that there was a need to have devoted youth with motivation and social temper who could seek their individual happiness in the happiness of their fellow countrymen.

That alone would ensure building up a social value system where not only a person himself led a better life but also helped others to do so, he said.

''I am proud that these cadets have been imbued with the values of giving more to the society than to take from it.'' The Vice-President urged the young cadets to always aim high, have great dreams and above all cherish the precious dream of a strong and prosperous, fully developed and vibrant India.

Fulfillment of such dreams would lead the country on the road to success. India with half a billion-strong youth power must, sooner than later, occupy place of pride in the comity of nations, he added.

Applauding the cadets he said through their sense of discipline, unity and social service, they all had come to represent the sublime values of our society. This eminently qualified them to become the future leaders in varied walks of life.

NCC inculcated in them good citizenship values and help them grow as responsible citizens of the country, making them ever sensitive to the problems of the country and its people, Mr Shekhawat said.

He also took a round of the camp after inaugurating it. A memento was also presented to him on the occasion.
