UP Governor meets Patil, discusses state law and order

New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar today called on Home Minister Shivraj Patil amid increasing criticism of the law and order situation in the state, which is going to the polls early this year.

The Governor's meeting with Mr Patil lasted over half an hour during which he is understood to have discussed the law and order and matters related to the coming elections, an official source said.

Opposition parties like the BJP, BSP and Congress have severely criticised the Mulayam Singh government over incidents like the killing of children in Nithari village of Noida in the state and murder of Meerut college lecturer Kavita Rani.

The BJP and BSP have even been demanding president's rule in the state.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, also MP from the state, have been making scathing attack on the government on the law and order front.
