Imphal, Jan 8 (UNI) There is a strong possibility for six non-Congress sitting MLAs to contest as Congress party candidates for Manipur's 60-member assembly elections in February.

Party sources said the AICC has approved the admission of six MLAs to the party. Four from the Federal Party (FP) of Manipur and two from Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP), who supported the Congress-led Secular Progressive Front Government in Manipur.

The FP's MLAs who joined the Congress were N Bihari of Khurai, I Hemochandra of Singjamei, N Biren of Sekmai, and S Chandra of Andro. The two members of MSCP were Y Erabot of Wangkhei and Vivek Raj Wangkhem of Kshetrigao.

Party sources, however, said the fate of former chief minister and BJP MLA R K Dorendra was still uncertain. Former congress leader Dorendra now with the BJP, had submitted an application to the Congress recently to join the party and contest as Congress candidate from Yaiskul constituency.
