National CITU Convention from January 17

Mangalore, Jan 8 (UNI) The 12th All India Convention of Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) would be held in Bangalore from January 17 to 21, CITU Karnataka President B Madhava said today.

Talking to newsmen here, he said that this was for the first time CITU Convention was held in Bangalore since its inception in 1970.

Altogether 2500 elected delegates of Trade Unions from all over the country, besides delegates from 40 foreign countries including US, Latin America, Canada, European Countries, Middle East and Asia, would participate in the five-day Convention.

Issues like impact of liberalisation on the labour organisations, Contract system and BPO and 'Hire and Fire' system would be discussed thread bear.

Mr Madhava said that CITU strongly oppose creation of Special Economic Zones (SEZ) in different parts of the country specially aimed at favouring multinational companies(MNCs) and private investors with long time tax benefits.

He said that a huge rally would also be held on January 21 in which about one lakh workers are expected to participate which would be addressed by the Senior National leaders like Dr N K Phandhe, Chittpratha Majumdar.
