HC admits Amarinder's petition
Chandigarh, Jan 8 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today admitted a petition filed by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh seeking directions to quash the complaint filed in the lower court against him for allegedly defaming Shiromai Akali Dal president and ex-chief minister Parkash Singh Badal during poll campaign for Punjab Vidhan Sabha general elections in 2002.
The petition was filed by advocate N S Minhas, a Chandigarh unit secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal).
The counsel for Amarinder Singh submitted that the petition was not maintainable as only the person who allegedly has been defamed could under the law seek damages and nobody else. In the present case, Badal plea was already pending before the trial court.
