BenQ smartphones to bundle Mundu this year

New Delhi, Jan 8: Software solution company Geodesic Information Systems Ltd today announced it has entered into a co-operative relationship with BenQ to offer its Mundu technology for multiple BenQ smartphone models scheduled for release this year.

Mundu is an interoperable instant messaging tool that lets users communicate with one another instantly, even across other major instant messaging services including AIM, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo.

It combines features such as URL transfer, radio, cross-conferencing, easy portability, cross platform availability and integrated services including integration of mail notifications, sms/reverse sms and a scrolling news, mail and stocks ticker.

As per the agreement, users of BenQ phones would be able to use Mundu for chatting with their friends across major public instant messaging networks, across languages and platforms.

The two companies will jointly promote the bundled products and have yet to announce the schedule for release.

The application would be bundled on select models and would be available online for other models, a statement said.

Mundu Radio operates on mobile phones with internet connection (WiFi, GPRS, CDMA) and BenQ users to listen to thousands of radio stations directly from their phones.

We are constantly looking for ways to bring the digital lifestyles of our customers, right to their mobile phones,'' said Dr Irwin Chen, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Mobile Communication Business Group (MCG) of BenQ.

This service is compatible with Nokia handsets based on Symbian Series 60 OS. Mundu Radio supports streaming at bit-rates as low as 24Kbps that makes it suitable for use on widely deployed GPRS networks.

The company Managing Director Kiran Kulkarni said,''We are hopeful that this will help both of us to combine our strengths and reach out to a wider audience. BenQ's global reach in wireless handsets will help us expand the user base of Mundu, thus creating revenue opportunities for both the companies.''
