Bali resents Delimitation Commission's proposals

Dharamshala, Jan 8 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Transport and Tourism Minister G S Bali today expressed dissatisfaction over the Delimitation Commission's final proposal to reduce assembly constituencies in the Kangra district to 15 from 16.

''Kangra has a special place in history and the proposals, which are against the interest of the Kangra, will be fought tooth and nail,'' he said at a press conference here.

Mr Bali said all leaders of the district would appeal to the Commission to re-consider its proposal of decreasing one assembly seat and added that the district should not be penalised for adopting family planning.

''Though emotional people of Kangra are very strong, they should not be penalised for adopting family planning.'' Observing that the Commission had not taken into consideration the state's topography, Mr Bali said a review of their proposals was necessary keeping in view their difficult terrain.

The Himachal Pradesh Government had placed its views before the commission time and again, but it never took those suggestions in right perspective, he said.

He also said besides meeting the commission chairman, he would also call upon the party high command and appraise her of his views on the issue.

Terming the Commission's proposal ''painful and unfortunate'', he said the public and their representatives views and proposals were not taken into considerations while preparing the final draft.
