Baba Amrik Singh surrenders

Patiala, Jan 8 (UNI) Baba Amrik Singh, who performed Kar Sewa of much publicised gold palanquin that was taken to Pakistan last year, today surrendered in the local court as his appeal for anticipatory bail was rejected by Supreme Court on December 8 last.

Baba Amrik Singh, has been facing charges for embezzlement of eight kg of gold while preparing the golden palanquin. Baba Jagtar Singh, head of Goindwal Sahib Dera, was entrusted to prepare golden palanquin by DSGMC, He handed over the job to Amrik Singh, an associate.

The court has sent Baba Amrik Singh to judicial custody till January 10. Later police moved an application for police remand of Baba, which was also fixed for January 10 for hearing.

A case has registered under sections 420, 465, 468, 471, 477 and 120B of IPC against Baba Amrik and nine others in Tripuri police station of Patiala.

Those named in the FIR are Baba Amrik Singh, Mukhtiar Singh, Harjeet Kaur, Amandeep Singh, Harmohinder Singh, Guriqbal Singh, Dharamjeet Singh and Hardeep Singh living in Patiala and adjoining towns.

The case was registered on complaint of Baba Gurmeet Singh, who was junior to Baba Amrik Singh. Raids were conducted by the police to arrest Baba at different places in Punjab but to no avail.

Police have already arrested six persons in this case, were Haka Singh,Mukhtiar Singh, Harjit Kaur, Kamaljit Kaur, Harmohindr Singh, Harjinder Kaur nee Malika. Three persons Amandep Singh , Guriqbal Singh and Dhramjit Singh were still absconding.
