Asom attacks expose UPA's poor internal security management : BJP
New Delhi, Jan 8 (UNI) Condemning the attacks unleashed by ULFA in Asom, the BJP today said the events had exposed the ''fragility'' of the UPA's internal security management.
BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley said the Common Minimum Programme of the UPA had a passing reference towards internal security, that too for repeal of POTA in its 35-page document.
The law and order situation in the country had become worse in the last two years and it was never in the list of priorities resulting in the security apparatus falling apart and crumbling, he alleged.
Mr Jaitley claimed in the last elections, ruling Congress had struck an understanding with ULFA but when the talks were held, even the second rung leaders were not attending the negotiations.
About the CBI, he said in two and a half years many instances had taken place where the investigating agency was ''misused'' and has now completely lost its autonomy and independence.
The ruling UPA had used the organisation to let off the hook many in the ruling dispensation, he said and added defreezing of the London bank accounts of Italian fugitive and main recipient of Bofors kickbacks, Ottavio Quattrocchi, was a case in point.
