Armed forces officers to undergo management training in IIMB

Bangalore, Jan 8 (UNI) To hone their management skills and land plum jobs in the corporate world after retirement, 77 officers belonging armed forces of Army, Navi and Air Force in the ranks ranging from Captain to Brigadier, joined a Post Graduate Certificate course in Management at the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (IIMB) here today.

The course jointly conducted by the Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) and the IIMB, was inaugurated by Maj. Gen.

Harwant Krishan, Director General of DGR, who said the programme was aimed at enhancing the officer's skills and competence that they had developed while serving the armed forces.

The six-month course would help them to learn contemporary business models and practics, develop competence associated with general management and think through advanced business strategies with a global perspective, he said.

Such PG courses were already being conducted by IIMs at Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Indore. The DGR was a nodal agency under the Ministry of Defence created with a specific mandate fore-settlement of service personnel from all the three wings of defence services like Army, Air Force and the Navy. The DGR had the responsibility to prepare the retiring personnel for their resettlement.

Speaking on the occasion, IIM-B Director Prakash G Apte said the officers of the armed forces joining the corporate world would offer a win-win situation for both retiring officers as well as the corporate world as the officers always excelled working in the environments like constantly meeting the deadline and crisis.

"Many a times corproate world is found disorganised or lack descipline. The officers of armed forces can certainly change this type of mindset," he added.
