Kochi, Jan 8 (UNI) Terming ''unfortunate'' the Kerala High Court ruling quashing important provisions of the Kerala Self-Financing Professional Colleges Act, 2006, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) State President K Muraleedharan today urged the government to call an all-party meeting to find a solution to the issue.

Speaking to mediapersons, he said the government should call for an all-party meeting to discuss the issue and consider bringing in a fresh Act.

Mr Muraleedharan said the meeting should strive for a consensus to be conveyed to the Centre to facilitate a law within the framework of the Constitution.

Referring to State Education Minister M A Baby's statement to appeal in the Supreme Court, he said the government should try to refrain from legal entangles as the situation was grave.

'The government should discuss the issue with all political parties, students' organisations, educational experts and seek legal advice to find a solution,'' he added.

He said students were facing a ''bleak and uncertain'' future and the government must take concrete steps to mitigate the problem.

''If the government is lethargic in dealing with the issue, the NCP will come forward with agitations throughout the state,'' he said.
