Abducted clerk rescued, kidnapper shot dead

Mau, Jan 8 (UNI) A history-sheeter was gunned down in an encounter and an abducted clerk was rescued from his clutches in this district of Uttar Pradesh.

Arvind Humar Mishra -- a clerk at the district primary education office was kidnapped yesterday by armed miscreants.

Acting on a tip-off, cops reached the Ghosi police station area and rescued Arvind. Seeing the police, the accused tried to fled the coop but cops shot him dead.

The slain criminal was identified as Shesh Pratap Rai, who was carrying a reward of Rs 2,500 on his head.

Several cases of loot, dacoity and murder were pending against him.
