Lahore, Jan 7 (UNI) Waqar Younis has resigned as Pakistan's bowling coach, saying that his services were no longer needed after former spinner Mushtaq Ahmed's re-appointment as the assistant coach for Inzamam-ul Haq's men.

According to a report in 'The News', the former captain was due to join the Pakistani team in South Africa for a Test and ODI series but backed out just before his departure.

Waqar has reportedly intimated his decision to the Pakistan Cricket Board in which he has cited Mushtaq's appointment as the reason for his resignation from the coaching staff.

The former star, who had a contract until the end of the World Cup, said he was not required by the team any more as Mushtaq was a bowler himself and could help the side's bowling department.
