Tension in Saje near Nagarjuna Power Project site

Udupi, Jan 7 (UNI) Tension mounted in Saje near the proposed coal based Nagarjuna Power Project in the district today when the workers and people opposing the project entered into an argument and attacked each other.

Police said the trouble started when the workers came with JCB for putting up a fence in a private land owned by a woman. People gathered at the site objected to the move leading to verbal clashes and stone pelting.

Meanwhile, a photo journalist was attacked by the workers, who also smashed his camera.

Senior Bharatiya Janata Party MP Manorama Madwaraj, who was participating in a dharna against the project rushed to the spot and lodged a complaint with the police.

Additional forces were rushed to the site and situation was brought under control.
