Over 9 lakh children given polio drops in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 7 (UNI) More than 9 lakh children were administered pulse polio drops across the Kashmir valley today in this year's first round of immunization campaign.

Minister of State for Health and Medical Education Peer Mohammad Hussain launched the programme from the Gousia Hospital at Khanyar in the downtown city this morning by administering polio drops to the children.

To cover all the children between 0 and 5 years of age in the Kashmir division, the Health department had established 4771 booths and deployed about 19,060 personnel while as many as 980 officers supervised the programme.

Besides, 10 mobile teams with 153 personnel and 49 officers had been established in the entire Kashmir valley for the purpose.

As many as 9,84,858 children were administered about 19.70 lakh dozes of polio drops during the campaign.

To achieve 100 per cent target, health officials would begin a two-day door-to-door campaign tomorrow to administer the polio drops to those children who were left out today.
