MP: Grand memorial to be built in Azad's memory
Bhopal, Jan 7: A grand Azad memorial would be built at freedomfighter Chandrashekhar Azad's birthplace in Bhabra in Jhabua districtof Madhya Pradesh.
The memorial -- being built at a cost of Rs one crore -- willshowcase writings and materials related to the life and personality ofthe freedom fighter.
Besides, a 10-day Azad Sandesh Yatra has started from Allahabad onJanuary three to spread the message of Chandrashekhar Azad on theoccasion of his birth centenary.
The 3000 km-yatra will pass through more than 20 districts and 60towns and cities in Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh before culminatingat Azad's native Bhabhra village in Jhabua district. The yatra wouldreach the state capital on January nine, Convenor Anil Dave said.
The state government had also instituted an award in the freedom fighter's name this year.
Mr Dave said the Bundelkhand region where the Azad Yatra enteredtoday was a witness to several incidents of valour and courage of Azad.
Azad had made his intentions clear when he was in his teenage andsentenced to beating by canes. On being asked to reply what was hisname, address and father's name, he defiantly replied that his name was'Azad' (free), his residence was the jail and his father's name was'swatantrata (independence)'.
