Five Maoist naxals surrender
Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, Jan 7 (UNI) Five Maoist naxalites-- Two Local Organising Squad (LOS) commanders, one deputy commander and two squad members of Maoist party have surrendered before the police here today.
The surrendered Naxals were - Vavila Venkanna alias Parshanna, of Shapelli of Eturunagaram, Govindaraopet LOS commander, who was involved in nine cases. He carried a reward of Rs One lakh on his head.
Addressing the press conference here, District Superintendent of Police Soumya Mishra said Devarakonda Santosh alias Satyam of Buttaigude, Medaram LOS commander, was involved in four cases including a murder case. He carried a reward of Rs two lakh on his head.
The other leaders included Vanka Ramadevi alias Vidyakka of Govindaraopet mandal, who was Gundala LOS deputy commander; G Adilaxmi alias Haseena of Pinapaka mandal of Khammam district and Nallaboina Papa Rao alias Prabhakar of Ailapur of Eturunagaram mandal.
SP said now the Eturunagaram area is free from Naxal movement except for the Eturunagaram area committee secretary Damodar, who is still underground.
She appealed to him to surrender and take advantage of the situation. The police were not interested in bloodshed but only wanted the reformation of criminals and anti-socials, she said, adding, hence, the underground cadre should come out and join the mainstream.
The police department would ensure proper settlement of all the surrendered Naxals with the help of the state government. The government has been offering various welfare schemes aimed at helping the former extremists.
Devarakonda Santosh alias Satyam, the surrendered LOS commandar said the Maoist party distanced itself from the people resulting in disinterest among villagers for the movement.
