CM advises local urban bodies to generate additional income

Shimla, Jan 7 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today called upon the local urban bodies to generate additional sources of income for carrying out its basic functions.

Addressing people on the occasion of civic reception by the Nagrota Bagwan Nagar Panchayat here last evening, he said people would not mind paying for efficient services rendered by the local urban bodies.

Mr Singh said his government was also considering a proposal to give the status of municipal corporation to Nagrota Bagwan Nagar Panchayat after taking into consideration all aspects.

The state government has also empowered the municipal bodies and gram panchayats to levy local taxes on people to generate additional income, he said, while suggesting that house tax would help it generate additional income.

He said the government had already announced the construction of a new bus stand, government degree college and sewerage system for the planned development of Nagrota town.

State Transport Minister G S Bali and MP Chander Kumar were also present on the occasion.
