BJP threatens to launch agitation against Centre on soaring prices

Patna, Jan 7(UNI) Demanding immediate steps to check soaring prices, the BJP today threatened to launch a massive agitation against the Centre's economic policy.

During the two-day state-level executive meeting, the BJP expressed concern over the escalating prices of almost all the goods and exhorted the people to launch massive agitation to exert pressure upon the Centre to control the price in the interest of the commoners.

In its economic resolution, the BJP alleged that price rise, corruption, commission system and black marketing were a common phenomenon whenever Congress came to power.

It said that within a short span of only a year, the prices of food grains have doubled while price of salt has registered three fold increase.

The NDA had made the country self-sufficient in food grains, apart from storing a good amount of buffer stock of rice and wheat during its six years regime where as the Congress-led UPA reverted the situation and now the government was importing wheat from Australia, black gram from Myanmar, gram from Canada, sugar from Pakistan, bengal gram from Srilanka, oils from Thailand at an exhorbitant rate.

The consumers were facing LPG crisis and forced to buy it in the blackmarket.

Medicines, fertilizers, steel, agricultural and industrial equipment were also beyond reach due to their high prices.

''The dreams of middle class to have a house had become a distant dream as the interest rate on home loan had increased during the regime of UPA,'' the BJP alleged.

The resolution of the BJP stated that right from the business class to professionals, farmers and labourers, all were facing hard time due to escalating prices, which should be controlled at any cost, otherwise the Party would be forced to adopt agitational path.
