Asom Gana Parishad leader condemns ULFA killings
New Delhi, Jan 7 (UNI) Asom Gana Parishad leader and Lok Sabha MP Sarbananda Sonawal today criticised the Asom government for its total failure in controlling the militancy in the state which resulted in the serial attacks by ULFA.
Talking to UNI from Asom, he condemned the merciless killing of innocent people by ULFA. He said his party was opposed to any sort of violence adding that the security had not yet been beefed up in the state.
''There were reports with the state government as well as the Centre, of possible attacks by ULFA militants but both took it lightly which caused the death of nearly 48 people in the last 48 hours,'' the Lok Sabha MP said.
The Centre had totally failed to understand the people's demand in the state who had been repeatedly requesting for resumption of peace talks with the ULFA for a permanment political solution in the state, he added.
''It is high time the Centre initiated peace talks without any pre-condition,'' Mr Sonawal said and requested the ULFA to come to the peace table without any fixed agenda.
