3rd International BHU Alumni Meet begins

Varanasi, Jan 7 (UNI) The two-day third International Banaras Hindu University Alumni Meet (IBAM) started with the BHU Vice-Chancellor Panjab Singh giving a call for the establishment of an Indian Institute of Information Technology and Design in the central university.

''The University needs to work towards IT inculcation in design activities. Hence, an Indian Institute of Information Technology and Design should be established in BHU,'' Prof Singh here said yesterday while addressing the inaugural function of the meet being attended by over 3,000 distinguished alumni of the university established by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya in 1916.

Prof Singh further praised the Hydrogen Energy Programme in the university, adding serious efforts should be made for the establishment of a National Centre on Hydrogen Energy at BHU.

Presiding over the function, national president of Delhi based Mahamana Malaviya Mission Justice Giridhar Malaviya appealed to accelerate efforts to set up a fund which would help economically weaker students to pursue higher studies at BHU.

IBAM organising secretary Chandrakala Padia presented the vote of thanks.
