Veteran Human Rights activist Hagroo dead

Srinagar, Jan 6 (UNI) Veteran Human Rights (HR) activist and lawyer Ghulam Nabi Hagroo died here, his family said.

He was 76.

Mr Hagroo, suffering from cancer for the past four years, breathed his last at his Alochi Bagh residence last evening, they said.

Both factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) and almost all other separatist organisations have epxressed deep shock over the demise of Mr Hagroo, who was a part of Kashmiri lawyers delegation which met Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf in Pakistan in 2002.

He also participated in a number of seminars on Human Rights in different countries.In 1993, he visited Geneva to highlight the alleged HR abuses in Kashmir before the International community.

Mr Hagroo also wrote a number of books on different topics.
