Telecom and power sector to work together: Govt
New Delhi, Jan 6: The Department of Telecom (DOT) would soonexplore possibilities of setting up a working group that woud helpundertake synergies between the telecom and power sector.
Minister of State for Communications and IT Shakeel Ahamad saidthe synergy between power and telecom is a continuous process and thereis a need to work in closer coordination.
For this, he said DOT would explore the possibilities of settingup of a working group comprising representatives from TEMA, Industryand concerned government departments.
Dr Ahmad urged the TEMA members to bring out a comprehensivecompendium of information relating to both these sectors so as to useit fruitfully for the growth in these sectors.
Dr Ahmad said power is a pre-requisite for telecom as it isrequired for telephone exchanges, providing landline telephones, or thecell phone or even the WLL.
The development of technology in these sectors should reach thelast person of the society, Dr Ahmad said while addressing the workshopon ''Telecom and Power Convergence'' organised by the TelecomEquipments Manufacturers Association (TEMA) and the Power Ministry here.
Convergence of power and telecom infrastructure is viewed,throughout the world, as a viable alternative to address rapidexpansion and better reach, he added.
