Six killed, 15 wounded in a bus blast

Colombo, Jan 6 (UNI) Six people were killed and 15 wounded when a bomb exploded inside a bus in Mitiyagoda at Hikkaduwa in the southern Ambalangoda district of Sri Lanka this afternoon, police and military sources said.

''Initial investigations reveal that the explosion has occurred in a passenger bus travelling from Colombo to Matara on the Galle road killing at least six passengers and injuring 15 ,'' a military official told UNI over the phone.

The police sources said the injured passengers were immediately rushed to the nearby Karapitiya hospital.

Further details of the blast are awaited.

It was only yesterday evening that six passengers were killed and 60 wounded in a bomb blast inside a bus travelling from Nittambuwa to Kiriulla on the Colombo-Kandy highway in the Gampaha district.

Blaming the LTTE for the attacks, Defence Spokesman Keheliya Rambukwela said that the rebels were carrying out terror attacks against civilians due to continuous defeats at the hands of the Security Forces.

There was immediate reaction from the LTTE with regard to these attacks.
