Relatives of PM not to contest assembly polls:PPCC

Chandigarh, Jan 6 (UNI) The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today clarified that no member of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's family would contest the Vidhan Sabha elections from Punjab to be held on February 13.

''The Prime Minister has himself confirmed to the PPCC that no member of his family would be in the fray in the assembly polls''.

PPCC spokesman Raj Pal Singh said in a statement here today.

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had yesterday stated that the Prime Minister's brother, Mr Surjit Singh Kohli had met him and expressed his desire to contest the elections from one of the constituencies in Amritsar city, the home town of the PM. The CM had said the PM's brother had every right to contest the polls but the final decision would be taken by the Congress high command.

Mr Kohli, who resides in Amritsar had himself publically expressed his desire to contest the assembly polls from one of the four assembly constituencies of the holy city.
