Police foil attempt of major attack on NH

Agartala, Jan 6 (UNI) The Tripura police have foiled an attempt by miscreants to attack vehicles on National Highway 44 by arresting three persons from Madhabbar area on Thursday.

Acting on a tip off that the three miscreants were traveling in a car on the national highway in the evening, the police pursued them and found them trying to waylay a vehicle. Immediately security personnel from Jirania police station divided into two groups and captured the three youths.

On interrogation, they confessed that their main objective was to organise major crimes on vehicles plying through the NH 44.

Police also recovered a 9 mm pistol from them.

Meanwhile, a dreaded NLFT militant surrendered to the Assam Rifles here and deposited a pistol, three magazines, a grenade, live bullets and a Japan-made wireless set.

The ultra was a self-styled lieutenant of the NLFT(BM), who joined the banned outfit during 1996 and went to a training camp in Bangladesh.
