''Patrakar Din'' function held at Kolhapur
Kolhapur, Jan 6 (UNI) It is not quantity of news but their quality which is of utmost importance for a newspaper to face the challenges of the 21st century, according to scholar Dr V L Dharurkar of the Marathwada Vidyapeeth.
He was speaking as chief guest at the ''Patrakar Din'' function organised by the Kolhapur District Marathi Patrakar Sangh here today.
In the present era of globalisation and competition, there should be competitive quality and not quantity, he said and added that media has to play a role of a guide for the society.
While pointing out that circulation of newspapers have grown over the years, he urged them not to abandon their chief purpose of provoking thought among their readers.
On the occasion, ''Pudhari'' executive editor Suresh Pawar, Kolhapur ''Sakal'' executive editor Dileep Londhe, and Kolhapur ''Lokmat'' executive editor Dashrath Parekar were felicitated for their contributions to the Marathi newspaper industry.
