Panaji, Jan 06 (UNI) Minister for Transport Pandurang Madkaikar has called for creating mass awarness about road safety to avoid accidents and save lives. Awakening, he said, should be made through villages and educational institutions.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of Road Safety Week organized by Directorate of Transport in the city, Mr Madkaikar stressed the need for strict enforcement of traffic rules to maintain traffic safety and road safety measures and create greater awareness among road users.

He said the state Government, in its efforts to bring down the rate of accidents, has already initiated several measures like widening of roads, their improvements and training to Drivers and conductors.

Madkaikar said overspeeding, overloading and reckless driving are some of the reasons for causing accidents. Installations of signals, speed Breakers, hidden cameras, flyovers among other measures needs to be taken to avoid accidents, he said.
