K'taka: Insurance scheme for cattle soon

Dharwad (Karnataka), Jan 6: The Karnataka Government will introducean insurance scheme for cattle this month, State Animal HusbandryMinister Revu Nayak said today.

Talking to newspersons here, he said the scheme would beintroduced in Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Kolar and Mandyadistricts on an experimental basis. Insurance companies would make apayment ranging between Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 if a milch cattle diedand the beneficiaries have to pay 50 per cent of the premium.

It was proposed to provide insurance cover to 10,200 animals thisyear and the Centre had released Rs 1.43 crore for the purpose, headded.
